Identify Academic SourcesQuick ways of identifying academic sources:

  • Footnotes, that explain a concept in more detail, define a term or point to a reference
  • Index, a list of keywords at the end of the book, that give you the page number of where these key words are discussed
  • Bibliographies or reference lists at the end of the whole text or at the end of each article/chapter
  • Published by a university press
  • Authors with academic titles (Dr. or Prof.)
  • Glossary of terms, a list of key terms or abbreviations with their definitions at the beginning or end of a text
  • Peer-review, meaning that experts of the field have reviewed these texts and considered them good enough to be published
